David and Goliath Masterpiece

David And Goliath Masterpiece

I am aiming to re-make this wonderful masterpiece using photography. It occurred to me that rather than doing something that already existed in a slightly different way I could make David and Goliath new, fresh and interesting. So I started looking in to different ways of re-making it. My first idea was to use 2 dogs maybe a Great Dane and a Chiwawa. So I arranged to visit a local kennels and photograph some of the dogs. I knew it would be a challenge to take good quality photos of animals but succeed in getting a few decent photos. But I felt like it just needed something more. So I decided to take another look at my research and a photographer called Jonathan Hobin caught my eye. He takes photos of historic events but using children as models. This gives the generally quite grim events a childish playfulness. My auntie has 2 little boys’ aged 3 and 6 years old. So because they attended school on weekdays I arranged for them to come down from Yorkshire on a weekend and essentially turned my kitchen in to a studio to photograph them. To me the painting of David and Goliath shows a very intimate moment between David and Goliath. David is stood in a strong yet caring position; although he has beaten Goliath he looks more concerned than victorious. Since we generally fight with our siblings but still care about them, 2 brothers seemed like the perfect fit.
David and Goliath (David Victorious over Goliath) is a painting by the Italian Baroque master Caravaggio (1571–1610). It was painted in about 1599, and is held in the Museo del Prado, Madrid. Two later versions of the same theme are currently to be seen in Kunsthistorisches Museum, Vienna (David with the Head of Goliath (Vienna), and in Rome's Galleria Borghese(David with the Head of Goliath).
